Another character from my illustration antiquity. Before I knew what furry was I was knee deep in the Gargoyles fandom. Willow was one of three characters I made up for a fan-fiction that never got written and at this point never will.

Dragons and such

Another less then productive day it seems.
Days like this i just scribble and erase endlessly in OC until something decent comes out. Today it was some of my eastern dragons, though none of my canon characters. If I ever get around to this storyline these 2 may end up as background characters idk.
One looks a bit more goat-like then the canine like the rest of my cast..and the other has a doe feel. I do like them both and I may finish the doe one.

Lazy Saturdays

Just as the title states, I slacked on my drawing over the holiday. Drawing today has been difficult at best,I'm not really happy with most of the stuff i tried to doodle over the course of the night and all I have to offer are two unfinished images that may or may not see more completion.
I offer Calypso my pygmy feline. She's one of my 'punching bag'characters as her lot in life always seems on the downside.
The other is a rather generic gryphon that I am doing more to experiment with a coloring technique. They show some potential..but only time will tell.

Pencils

So this is still in the preliminary sketch stage. I have taken the very rough doodle and tightened up the details. At this point things can still be switched and changed before I go onto the cleanup and inking stages.
I added the lighter yellow under the figure to show how the character will look on top of the background.. and just to make things overall more readable.

As it is a holiday there probably won't be a post tomorrow (Thursday) and I will try and post Friday but no promises til Saturday at least. :3

Creative Process Pt. 1

Have been tossing around the idea of showing a piece stage by stage as I create it. I'm using the opportunity to do this with a piece I am doing for Silver-Dragonwolf over on FA. She won my 30k kiriban and requested a piece in the Mucha-esque style I do on occasion.
I borrowed the pose from the piece "Two Standing Women". For this particular work I mapped out the base background shapes in Photoshop before importing the file into Open Canvas to roughly sketch out the figure. When sketching I use the watercolor brush in a small diameter to just block out shaped and where particular elements will end up. I may or may not work out specific areas with the pencil tool before taking the file to SAI for inks. In this case since the character and scene are fairly complex I will probably pencil in some details before inking.


On an unrelated side note.. the journal layout has changed a bit this week. I like this style a but better as the text wraps a bit nicer, however the colors and such need a bit of work. I'll be tweeking here and there over the next few weeks I think.

This sketch kinda goes along with the femme character doodles, though is more in depth then the simple bust shots I had been doing. Luna is another of my long time characters dating bask to my early college days. Originally she was my unique take on a gryphon, sans beak. But Later in it just made more sense for her to be a Sphinx. She's a short pudgy soft butch lesbian and was Zoe's original girlfriend.

Moar Girls

I managed to miss a night. We went out to celebrate a friends birthday and I never got a chance to draw. Tonight we see more of the female characters. I chose my hyenas to display this time. They are very much opposites. Aleea is a small submissive striped hyena while Petra is a rather large spotted and dominate hyena.

At home the next few days so I busted out the pens, pencils and markers. I always forget how much I love markers until I pick them up again to play around. Been doing feline faces a bit differently as of late..I don't think I will be changing the style of my cats completely so much as maybe swapping out styles depending on the demeanor of the character.

The Girls (1 of ?)

So after yesterdays post of the male characters I draw with fair regularity I thought it might be fun to do some bust sketches of the my female characters. So I made a list..and least to say I have a few days worth of doodle fodder. Looking at almost 8 days of material if i do 2 to 3 bust sketches a day. Now I may not do these all at once... i.e. I may save this list for days when my brain locks up and I can't think if what to draw. But then again.. that might just be how the week goes :3
Now I had planned on starting with Moss and Muddie my 'persona' characters.. but seems they are both being somewhat reclusive right now. Turns out the ones that wanted to be drawn first are some of my OLDEST known original characters. Salome and Kali can date their creation back to I'd say 1996. They were born as fan characters for the SwatKat cartoon. Salome is sort of a cat/bat mix and Kali has an almost sparke-dog level of color scheme. She is also my first 'eyepatch' marking character.

Just the Guys

Drawing has been a bit of a challenge today so I ended up just doing a bunch of bust shots. Here are the three guys I draw the most (and love drawing <3). Alphonse, Reynard, and Costello. Now only one of these technically belongs to me.. but I draw the other two all the time and have a form of limited rights to them I suppose you could say. Reynard is my husbands character and Costello belongs to my good friend Koh.

Not Quite Human

Elves and Gargoyles tonight. The elf is technically a WoW bloodelf. Freaja who belongs to friend Stephen. Zoe is the garg, well technically not a gargoyle but of the same genre. Not sure why she has the huge donkey ears.. but it's one thing she has kept through her many redesigns and I don't plan on changing it any time soon. :3

Next Step

Decided to ink the sketch from my first post.
I really didn't clean the rough sketch up past the state I had it before, just decided to throw it into SAI and see what happened. I am pretty happy with how Vari turned out, but I'm wondering if Moss seems a little small. It still needs cleaned up in a few places. I put the collar and leash on a separate layer so that I could take advantage of the vector inking to get consistent lines.

Figures

Went to Half Price Books today and ended up with 6 art books. Manet, Lautrec, daVinci, Klimt, Degas and Goya. I haven't gotten to read much in them yet but I am reminded how much I love and miss figure drawing. Working from pictures can only work so well. My goal for next year is to take at least 2 Figure classes, even just the ones at the cultural arts center which is fine as all i need is access to live models, not so much instruction.

Moar Doodles

Seems whenever I have people over to draw we end up just BSing and telling stupid stories. Not that I can complain too much, we have a lot of fun. This started as something completely different and I kept on moving, erasing and redrawing the characters.

What's all this?

I doodle a lot, and a good deal of that never makes it to finished pieces. Lots of it is what I do to occupy myself at work as the temptation to doze off is quite prevalent.
So going to try this sketch-blogginess and see how it works out.
Starting off with something I'm hoping will turn into a finished piece. This is the very first stage of planning for me when I draw. It's REALLY rough but is plenty for me to visualize layout and posing.
